Introdução
A “Arqueologia” das Palavras
Ao longo da sua pesquisa sobre as línguas da Amazônia, Dr. Henri Ramirez descobriu um grande número de empréstimos linguísticos. As línguas indígenas frequentemente tomam emprestadas entre si palavras que designam animais ou plantas. Esse tipo muito especial de empréstimos sugere que os contatos interétnicos devem ter sido numerosos em tempos remotos. Baseados neste fato, o autor propôs-se a explorar as relações entre empréstimos e contatos, e a vasculhar 2.000 anos de migrações pré-históricas e de colonização indígena na América do Sul.
Sumário
Henri Ramirez coletou dados lexicais originais ao longo de mais de vinte anos de pesquisas de campo. Esta coleção de dados foi realizada em uma extensa área que se estende do norte da Argentina à Venezuela e do Nordeste do Brasil até os Andes. No total, o estudo cobre aproximadamente 350 línguas e 2.700 páginas de vocabulários, compilados em 59 bancos de dados. Assim, a grande maioria das línguas nessa enorme região (idiomas ainda falados ou já extintos) é documentada. Henri Ramirez é linguista de grande produtividade e também biólogo amador. Atualmente ele está se aposentando da UNIR (Rondônia) e resolveu disponibilizar a sua vasta coleção de dados para outros pesquisadores e para os indígenas.
Conteúdo e uso dos dados
Naturalmente, o trabalho é incompleto, uma vez que só uma vida não é tempo suficiente para uma obra de escopo tão grande. Os arquivos apresentam certamente erros tipográficos ou ortográficos, possíveis erros na transcrição fonética ou na identificação correta de certas espécies animais ou vegetais. O autor omitiu certas abreviaturas e a bibliografia que ele utilizou não é sempre detalhada. Às vezes, são apenas mencionados o autor, o ano e a página. Para as línguas extintas, o leitor saberá ir atrás (em Loukotka, Martius, Natterer, etc.). Para as línguas vivas, o perito entenderá de onde o autor tirou os fonemas, caso já haja uma descrição da língua mencionada. Não cabia ao autor fazer um livro complementar que lista a bibliografia inteira de todas essas línguas.
No entanto, alguns desses atalhos ou shortcuts podem ser muito interessantes para quem souber aproveitá-los. Ao longo dos arquivos, o leitor achará, brevemente mencionadas para cá e para lá, mais de 30 sugestões para novas classificações. Esperamos que alguém saberá aproveitar dessas sugestões, especialmente em witoto, bora, yagua, zaparo, etc., já que o autor não teve tempo para resvolver o assunto. Desenvolver hipóteses a partir dos bancos de dados foi justamente a principal razão pela qual todo o material de Henri Ramirez foi entregue ao Museu Goeldi.

O autor
Henri Ramirez nasceu na França, estudou matemática em Marseille e depois recebeu um mestrado de engenharia na École Centrale des Arts et Manufactures (1977). Mudando de rumo, ele estudou a linguística na Université de Provence, graduando-se em 1991 (‘Aspects de la morpho-syntaxe du Yanomami’) e terminando um mestrado em 1992 (‘Le Bahuana: Une nouvelle langue de la famille arawak). Completou o doutorado em 1994 (‘Le parler yanomami des Xamatauteri’) na Université de Provence (France) e o pós-doutorado em 2018 (‘Uma gramática do Baniwa do Içana’) na UNICAMP (Brasil). Publicou mais de 15 livros sobre o Bahuana, o Yanomami, o Tukano Próprio, o Hup (família maku) e o Warázu (família tupi-guarani). O seu trabalho apresenta descrições gramaticais e dicionários desses idiomas, e também tenta desenvolver programas de educação bilíngue na Amazônia brasileira.
Em várias viagens ao campo, Ramirez coletou dados originais das línguas indígenas apresentados aqui. Um foco do seu trabalho em várias famílias linguísticas tem sido a classificação de línguas, a reconstrução diacrônica e evidências de contatos no passado através de empréstimos. A influência da vida do autor com índígenas não aculturados
No século passado, Henri Ramirez teve a sorte de viver anos inteiros com grupos yanomami não aculturados., Com eles, o autor aprendeu as ‘coisinhas da floresta’ e o interesse de amador que ele tinha desde pequeno para os animais e as plantas foi fortalecido, o que o levou sempre a favorecer a descrição dos léxicos zoológicos e botânicos.
Nesses 20 últimos anos, ele consegui juntar um número considerável de palavras designando animais ou plantas que são frequentemente empréstimos linguísticos de línguas indígenas entre si.
Metodologia
O autor viajou incansavelmente pelos rios e estradas da América do Sul, com uma caixa inteira que continha os mais diversos guias de campo, da herpetologia à ornitologia e à botânica. Soube também aproveitar das melhores gravações disponíveis de cantos de aves ou de anfíbios. Não se deve menosprezar o valor de todos esses recursos porque eles são a melhor garantia de obter o nome certo para a espécie pesquisada: uma simples tradução é frequentemente inconfiável.
Organização e formato dos arquivos
Um guia de arquivos segue, para orientar o usuário. Basicamente, as línguas são apresentadas por família, com línguas geneticamente relacionadas incluídas no mesmo arquivo. Dentro da database, as palavras de 1-4 línguas são apresentadas em cada página. A lista de palavras básicas varia de uma família para outra: às vezes são 100 conceitos, às vezes o número passa dos 400.
O arquivo .000 contém a lista padrão dos animais e plantas. Vários arquivos referem-se aos bolivianismos, colombianismos, peruanismos e outras marcas deixadas pelas línguas indígenas da América do Sul nas línguas de colonização (.01-.03). Os arquivos .04-.05 estudam os nomes de certas plantas cultivadas (mandioca, milho, tabaco, etc.) em muitas línguas indígenas da América do Sul e Central. A maior parte dos arquivos restantes é dedicado ao vocabulário faunístico e florístico de quase todas as línguas das Terras Baixas da América do Sul.
